Every time you hit the field, you punch them in the mouth, then you put your foot on their throat until that can't stand and they are utterly defeated. It has been said many times in many huddles. Over the years, players in every sport have heard a similiar speech before they step onto a field of play. Yet, they go out there and play a game. A game! Why all the talk of destruction, of stomping on their throats, etc...
It's a metaphor for one's approach to life, victory at all costs. We should bull through all of the things, nothing should stop us. Nothing!
Don't save anything, win or lose, leave everything that you have on life's battlefield. Whether it's writing, sports, acting, or whatever your "thing" is, do all with an ultimate amount of zeal. My sister spoke to me earlier today, she said that I wrote with a "raw" emotion. I told her that at my age, I fear nothing. People can hide feeling and intentions for only so long. If you are over your mid-forties and still worried about what any person may think ; please look in the mirror, and give yourself the "stomping on their necks" talk. Because you have nothing left to wait for, it is the bottom of the 9th, the 2 minute warning, sudden death, or extra minutes... It's time!
